HBBA / ROTOR BLADE ROOT MACHINING

Built around
your blade.

Your diameter. Your connection design. Your production. We design and manufacture the HBBA around your application – for onshore and offshore rotor blades.

01 / ONE INTEGRATED PROCESS

From blade root
to connection face.

For composite blade roots after bonding and demoulding. The HBBA brings blade handling and machining together in one coordinated process.

01

Position

The guided first support aligns and advances the blade into the machining area.

02

Saw

A PCD saw trims the excess laminate from the blade root.

03

Face mill

The milling unit finishes the flange face to the required plane and final blade length.

04

Drill

Axial and radial units work in parallel. Programmable cycles follow the specified hole pattern.

02 / CONNECTION DESIGN

Your blade design
defines the process.

01

Axial and radial connection

Axial threaded studs engage cross-bolts seated in radial holes. The HBBA combines face machining with the required drilling operations.

02

Bonded threaded inserts

An insert connection also requires a precisely machined end face. The HBBA can be configured as a milling-only machine with two milling units.

HBBA / CONFIGURATION

The diameter
is your choice.

From smaller roots to large rotor blades: the working range, supports and machining functions are engineered for your geometry. An example diameter in the brochure is not an upper machine limit.

Working range
Diameter and geometry defined by your blade drawing.
Machining
Sawing, face milling and drilling – or a milling-only configuration.
Production targets
Accuracy, tooling and cycle time matched to your application.
Integration
Enclosure, extraction, utilities and factory layout planned together.

Tailored at every level.

From blade supports to controls, equipment follows your process. Availability and combinations depend on the agreed configuration.

01

Blade handling

Blade-specific and additional supports, longer rails and a fully covered first support with automatic central lubrication.

02

Machining & extraction

Additional axial and radial drilling units, tailored milling arrangements and high-capacity dust extraction.

03

Control & operation

Remote and power monitoring, visual and audible signals, UPS for agreed circuits and additional access protection.

04

Tools to get started

Axial and radial drilling tools, a milling head, saw blade and tool adapters in a coordinated Quick Start Set.

Integrated into your factory.

We review your blade drawing, connection design and production targets with you. Together, these define the machine configuration, installation plan and site requirements.

Reference figures from an example offshore installation, not universal utility or construction specifications. Allow extra space for the complete blade, further supports, transport and maintenance. Foundations, utilities and protection follow the approved machine documentation.

From planning to operation

Development and manufacturing in Lemwerder, coordinated on-site commissioning and after-sales support for the machine in use.

The connection
is part of the picture.

Heinicke has supplied cross-bolts and threaded studs in series production for wind turbine blades. Component selection, dimensions, materials and finishes follow the approved drawing and blade specification.

Bonded block inserts

Internally threaded inserts for direct bonding into the blade root.

Cross-bolts / barrel nuts

Transverse internal threads engage the axial threaded studs.

Double-ended threaded studs

Connect through the axial holes into the cross-bolts.
